We are the Irish and UK agents for Pezzaioli livestock trailers. Manufactured in the North of Italy Pezzaioli are Europe's largest livestock trailer manufacturer producing 480 units per year. Pezzaioli have recently opened a new state of the art factory in Brazil and have begun manufacturing trailers for the South American market. Through continuous expansion Pezzaioli are also now exporting to Canada and North America.
Pezzaioli trailers have traditionally been built to a few set standards. In recent years ourselves and our customers have been pushing out the boundaries and trying to make the trailers more versatile and comfortable for both the animals and the operator and also making the trailer easier to operate. Below are some of the most recent advancements and alterations to the trailer design.
Interesting points about Pezzaioli trailers and bodies.
It has now been well proven that a lifting floor Pezzaioli properly designed can carry more animals than a conventional ramped trailer as it is much easier to get the animals into a flat pen rather than a sloped pen. There is less danger of getting hurt filling the top back pen with large cattle on a Pezzaioli as the cattle can walk straight in. In a ramped trailer the operator is trying to get the animals up a slope and then lock the doors behind them.
When cattle are coming off the top deck of a ramped trailer they tend to jump or run down from the top. This is not good for cattle going to slaughter as they can get bruised, and for animals going for further feeding or breeding these bruises or injuries can cause serious set backs and financial loss. In a properly designed Pezzaioli the cattle walk off as they are on the level.
Sheep coming off a ramped trailer on dark winters nights can be stubborn and don’t want to come down the ramps. In a Pezzaioli four deck once the first box is empty the operator is standing upright and with the sheep coming off level with loads of light all around them it makes the job very easy.
The operator is working in a far more comfortable environment as they are standing most of the time and are not getting as stressed as someone working a ramped trailer.
Some people think when loading a ramped trailer that it is far faster than a lifting deck trailer, this might be true with some lifting deck manufacturers but all new Pezzaioli trailers have load sensing so when the decks are empty they drop fast. Talk to any Pezzaioli driver they will without a doubt tell of the ease and relatively fast time of loading and unloading a Pezzaioli.
Pezzaioli are easier washed than a ramped multi deck trailer as there is no folding of floors putting away cross supports etc. And once washed out the trailer is ready for whatever type of animal is next to be loaded.
New type multi lift trailers are versatile for loading mixed loads the various loading options are endless.

- Operating buttons within the bodies have been developed to work the locks and decks to work in conjunction or seperatly from the remote and levers.
- Lever type hydraulic locks have been developed, these are very simple to use and automatically lock as the operator is lifting the load.
- Individual pens lifting without the traditional dividing door.
- Fold down water bowels which are clean and you loose less space within the trailer, Vertical water lines to provide nipples for all sizes of pigs.
- Full width back doors ,these make it easier to lock in the animals over the traditional half doors.
- Another new feature on these doors is the fan hinge that will allow the door to be lifted up so that it can be opened even on a very high loading dock.
- Bowed fronts to the trailers to give more room in the neck of the trailer.
- Higher dividing gates to make penning large cattle safer.
- Hinge down bottom deck gates that still swing around to alow the deck over head to be lifted to give extra height to operator and it also means that the gate does not have to be stored up under the second deck.
- Rear loading gates taller than before with hinge out funnel type extensions to make loading easier. When we started selling Pezzaioli customers were looking for the traditional loading gates that you can lift out at a angle to the bodie they thought that the fold up gate on a Pezzaioli was not very good. Now with the gates being made taller and with fold out extensions most would say thet they are far better than conventional gates because the animals can not see out through them and tend to just walk on into the trailer.
- LED lights inside the trailers make it very easy for working in the dark and there is a light in each pen.
- Higher trailers which gives more comfort for two decks of large cattle and also great comfort for four decks of ewes.
- Higher roofs with the sides sheeted to give more height and security to large cattle and also this keeps the trailers cleaner as it prevents manure from getting out. This also makes a pezzaioli more versatile for the tallest of cattle far better than any type of fixed deck trailer.
- Hydraulic rams which are built into the side of the bodie to cause less obstruction to both animals and general cargo loads.
- We also fit a rubber seal along the side of the top deck to stop cattle from dirtying down the side from the top floor, this is fitted by Fentons only.
- Tool boxes behind the rear axel for carrying extra equipment , sawdust etc.
- Galvanised slurry tanks fitted by ourselves.
- Air vent positions, we have made a lot of changes to air vent positions and sizes, we have managed to move the vents to such a position to keep the trailers a lot cleaner when carrying cattle and now the driver only ever has to open and close the lowest level from the ground. We have managed to do this and still keep the trailers legal for full European export.
- Another design feature that is now available is individual lifting decks. This means that the third deck can be lifted and locked in position and the second Deck can then be immediately loaded and locked. We are looking at putting this into a 4.4 mtr fixed roof trailer which would give the operator about 4ft 10inch under the bottom deck for working and then the operator can lower down the individual top floors before travelling . this would be especially fast for a trailer doing many loads of pigs in the one day.

Some of the different Pezzaioli models available include:
- Step frame 3×3. This is the original and most common design. Suitable for 3 decks of pigs or calfs and 2 decks of cows.
- Lorry and drag outfit. Lorry and drags are perfect for a lot of Irish work as they are very versatile. Due to the extra length allowed they also gain some extra floor space.
- Close couple trailers/centre axle trailers. These trailers are coupled usually about 1mt from the towing lorry. This combination will give the most sq meter of floor space while remaining easy to reverse and manoeuvre.
- Straight frame – fixed roof – lifting roof as used by many pig farmers in Ireland. Straight frame trailers are designed to be easy and fast to use. Time can be saved filling, unloading and washing these trailers as it is one continuous lift.
- Multi lift trailers – The ultimate in versatility and safety. These trailers are split up into individual lifting boxes.
- Fixed floor trailers
- Pallet Carriers: All Pezzaioli trailers come with barn type back doors for back loading, these are very good but the Ideal trailer for back loading is the pallet carrier. The pallet carrier structure is available on all the above types of vehicle the main advantage of pallet carrier is that the whole back of the trailer openes up and it is possible to put in the largest of general cargo loads . Many customers even drive in tractors ,cars jeep trailers etc. This feature means that the trailers have the ability to always run with a load when most conventional trailers cannot be back loaded like this. Also in a pallet carrier the hydraulic rams are built into the side of the trailer walls so that there is less obstruction to the animals.
